CityLoops is an EU-funded (Horizon 2020) research project that will contribute to more and better practice of circular economy not only in Bodø, but also in Norway and the EU.

Circular economy is about reducing resource use and preserving resources for as long as possible through waste reduction, reuse and recycling. To achieve this, a set of tools and processes will be developed, including 3D visualization tools, new business models, virtual marketplaces, purchasing routines and better methods for interaction and involvement of actors in the public sector, business, civil society and citizens.

CityLoops is a large project with a financial framework of over 100 million kroner, and Bodø is collaborating with six other cities; Porto, Seville, Mikkeli, Roskilde, Høje-Taastrup and Apeldoorn.

Nordland Research Institute is responsible for developing frameworks and indicators for evaluating activities in all cities, and will guide the cities both in the evaluation work and how they can involve stakeholders in an appropriate manner.

In Bodø, the focus is on the circulation of resources at the military airport area. CityLoops will develop knowledge and tools that can stimulate waste reduction, reuse and recycling of loose materials, infrastructure and structures in this enormous urban development project. What we learn here, and what we develop in CityLoops, will be applied in several places in the EU.
