Arild Gjertsen has broad experience with research on public governance and cooperation – from the local to the international. He has worked at Nordland Research Institute since 1997 and has broad experience from research related to intermunicipal cooperation, municipal structure, municipal administration, local democracy and regional development policy. In addition, he has worked on issues related to changes in municipal structure, with a particular focus on democratic aspects.

Arild Gjertsen holds a Master of Arts in Political Science from the University of Oslo. 

PhD thesis "From policy to practice; Implementation of changes in law to support and protect children of ill parents" at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Tromsø, The Arctic University of Norway.
