The overall goal of FOODCOAST is to point to alternative paths towards sustainable and holistic management of cultural landscapes and natural environments based on different food production patterns in coastal areas.

The Norwegian coast faces a number of environmental and social challenges such as climate change, environmental degradation, intensive land use, and displacement. FOODCOAST will study food production with a main focus on the management of landscapes where food is produced, but also the social and cultural frameworks for activities.

FOODCOAST compares three areas in Norway: Værlandet (Vestland), Porsanger (Troms and Finnmark), and Salten (Nordland).
