Senior researcher with expertise in community planning, nature and environmental policy, and sustainable development
Aase Kristine Lundberg is a senior researcher at Nordland Research Institute , with broad experience in community planning, nature management and environmental policy. She has particular expertise in the Norwegian planning system, nature management and the implementation of sustainability goals in local and regional planning. Lundberg combines research and practical experience to contribute to sustainable social change, and she is an active communicator participating in the public debate on just social transformation.
Competence
Aase Kristine has specialized in how planning and management can handle conflicts of interest and create legitimacy in complex decision-making processes. She has in-depth knowledge of the use of participatory processes in nature and environmental policy, how goal conflicts are handled in sustainability work, and tensions between local, regional and national considerations in planning.
Methodologically, she is proficient in both qualitative and quantitative methods, and she has extensive experience in project management in both national and international research projects, evaluations and commissioned projects. She has also worked on issues related to social justice in environmental management, and researches how gender and justice dimensions affect climate and environmental policy.
Through her research, she contributes to the development of knowledge-based solutions for sustainable land management, climate change adaptation, and the interaction between nature, society, and politics.
Education and work experience
Aase Kristine holds a PhD in social development and planning from NMBU (2017), where she researched legitimacy challenges in Norwegian nature management. She previously holds a master's degree in human geography from the University of Oslo (2009), as well as a bachelor's degree and one-year program in development studies from the same university.
She has been a senior researcher at Nordland Research Institute since 2017, and has previous experience as an advisor in Nordland County Council, where she worked with regional planning and climate change adaptation, and as an information officer at the University of Oslo. She has also been a visiting researcher at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway and a guest lecturer at NMBU.
In addition, she has been active in professional boards and councils, including as a member of the Academy for Young People. Researchers (2021-2025), where she is also a board member (2023-2025).
Lectures and dissemination
Aase Kristine is an active research communicator and regularly gives lectures to academic circles, public actors and the general public. She participates in public debates on sustainable social development, fair transition and management of natural resources.
She has also published popular science articles and participated in national and international conferences where she presents research on, among other things, nature management, community planning, climate justice and sustainability work.
Her commitment to building bridges between research, administration and society makes her an important contributor to the development of knowledge-based and inclusive social solutions.
