Unn Holgersen is a trained veterinarian with a background in both management and veterinary medicine. She is interested in applied and interdisciplinary research aimed at marine ecology, ocean management and animal health, with a particular focus on marine animals and species.

She has previously worked at the Centre for Marine Litter Prevention (Marfo, now the Norwegian Environment Agency), she also has clinical experience from small animal practice and specialization from her studies in marine mammals. At Marfo she gained good management expertise, and worked on, among other things, OSPAR monitoring of beach litter, associated R&D projects and the development of digital management tools for mapping and cleaning up marine litter along the coast ( Rent hav og Rydde ).
