Researcher with expertise in working life, the public sector and innovation.
Stian Bragtvedt is a senior researcher at Nordland Research Institute with a PhD in sociology and extensive experience from research on working life, public innovation and municipal restructuring. He has particular expertise in knowledge sharing and innovation in working life, the Norwegian micro-model in practice and municipalities' work to meet demographic changes. Bragtvedt is an experienced project manager and uses participatory and collaborative research methods to build bridges between practice and knowledge development.
Competence
Stian has a solid academic background in qualitative methods such as interviewing, observation and group interviews, and has experience with follow-up research and co-creation processes. He is particularly interested in informal mechanisms in working life – such as norms and practices – and how these interact with formal routines.
His research includes topics such as knowledge sharing, innovation in health and care services, goal-oriented social missions, and the role of competition in electronic waste recycling. He has also developed insight into how municipalities can address labor shortages and social challenges through strategic use of local resources.
Education and work experience
Stian Bragtvedt holds a PhD in sociology from Nord University (2021) and a master's degree in peace and conflict studies from the University of Tromsø (2007). He has been employed at Nordland Research Institute since 2021, and has previously worked as a section leader at the UN office in Oslo. He has experience from both the public and voluntary sectors and has built a research career driven by a curiosity about how concepts such as innovation, stakeholder relations or competition look up close, in everyday work.
Lectures and dissemination
Stian participates in the public debate and contributes with insight into how municipalities and public services can be developed through innovation and knowledge-based practice. He has given lectures, led workshops and participated in panel discussions on everything from social innovation to work inclusion and service development in the districts.
