– It is with pleasure that we in Nordland Research Institute can launch the first step in our work to make our research also available in Lule Sami.
This is stated by Iselin Marstrander, CEO of Nordland Research Institute , who on the occasion of Sami National Day can present a Lule Sami presentation of the institute and our research .
– It is natural for us to choose the Lule Sami language on the websites, as the head office is located in the Lule Sami area of Båddådjo. We envision being able to post information about interesting projects related to the highlands, and hope that this will provide access to more information in reports prepared in Norwegian and English, says Marstrander.
Important part of our focus
Nordland Research Institute has long conducted research on topics of particular relevance to Sami interests, such as reindeer herding, predator management, cartography and coastal fishing. The institute is also part of the Centre for Sami and Indigenous Studies, which was established in 2022 to coordinate, highlight and strengthen Nordland Research Institute and Nord University's Sami and indigenous people-related research.
– We are a research institute located in the North and which has the High North as an important perspective in most of our research. Knowledge needs in the North must be raised, collaboration partners in the High North must be made visible, research that is important for social development in Arctic areas must be on the agenda, says Marstrander.
– The Sami population is an important and natural part of our High North focus. Participation and ownership in the Center for Sami and Indigenous Studies at Nord University is a key step in highlighting and continuing a close and good collaboration with Sami institutions and organizations. In addition, we work on projects that are important to and rooted in Sami culture and business, she says.
