Birgit Pauksztat is researcher 1 at Nordland Research Institute and professor at the School of Business at Nord University.
Her research interests are in the areas of social network analysis, organizational sociology, and maritime sociology. A key focus is understanding the factors that influence social support, psychological safety, and trust. These are key aspects of workplace culture that contribute to employee well-being, safety, and performance. Empirically, much of Pauksztat's work has focused on maritime professions, particularly seafarers.
Another ongoing research project is exploring the importance of social relationships in dealing with everyday problems at work in different organizational contexts. An emerging area of interest is diversity and inclusion in the workplace, especially with regard to people with disabilities.
Before joining the Nordlands Research Institute, Birgit Pauksztat was an associate professor at the Department of Business Administration at Uppsala University, Campus Gotland (2017-2023), a senior lecturer in management and organization at the University of Greenwich in London, UK (2015-17), and an amanuensis in management and organization at the Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki, Finland (2011-2015).
