Nordland Research Institute celebrates Ocean Day in Mo i Rana: See the program

Nordland Research Institute and partners are marking Ocean Day this coming Sunday, June 8, with the launch of the Folk and Fjord pole hunt in Mo i Rana.

The People and Fjord project has worked with partners across the city to remind people of the importance of the fjord – who and what lives in Ranfjorden, how the fjord has helped shape the city and the people who live here, and how people have in turn influenced the fjord.

Celebrating Ocean Day on Moholmen

On Sunday between 11 am and 3 pm, we will gather the Folk og fjord partners and the local community to celebrate the fjord on the Moholmen promenade, in the Nordlands Geopark Science Center. There will be activities for the whole family and many opportunities to learn more about life in and around Ranfjorden.

The day offers a variety of activities, including:

People and the fjord pole hunt and quiz
Launch of the Science Center's new boat and water activity
Free short boat trips from AKVA group
Action against microplastics and beach cleanup with Mo i Rana International Group (MINT)
Beats from the Deep with DJ peer_plex
Play and fun by the sea with the Treasury and the Church City Mission
Magical ocean face painting – and much more.

At 14:00: How is the fjord?

5:30 PM: Free "OCEAN" film screening

The Science Center and Nordland Research Institute The day ends with a free screening of the documentary “OCEAN” with David Attenborough , sponsored by National Geographic. After the film, there will be an exciting conversation about the ocean and the future of the fjord.
