Education and work experience
Therese Andrews has broad experience in research within the sociology of health/welfare, where her work deals with tensions between ideology, politics and legislation on the one hand, and professional practice and user experiences on the other. Other research topics fall under the sociology of culture (food, body, cultural capital, omnivorousness) and symbolic practices; social capital and social inequality; organizational and professional sociology, including collaboration across professions, services, agencies, municipalities and levels of administration; educational sociology; sociology of law with restorative justice, and local environment, local communities and rural sociology. Analyses of concepts such as health, power, democracy, user participation, empowerment, medicalization, and deprofessionalization are also central to her research, as are gender and equality.
