Researcher specializing in gender, equality and marginalized groups
Fredrik Langeland is a senior researcher at Nordland Research Institute and has particular expertise in gender and masculinities, equality and living conditions, exclusion and people in vulnerable life situations. He is particularly interested in negotiations about gender in the media and popular culture. Fredrik has broad experience as a project manager, and has worked in both academia and public administration.
Competence
Fredrik has extensive experience with qualitative research methods and analyses, and has led and contributed to a number of R&D projects focusing on gender and sexuality. He has also worked on topics such as intimate partner violence, social control, and experiences with religious break-up processes.
Education and work experience
Fredrik holds a PhD from the University of Stavanger (2014). He holds a Master's degree in Cultural Studies from the University of Bergen. Since 2021 he has been employed at Nordland Research Institute , and previously he has held roles such as senior advisor at Bufdir and at the gender equality center KUN, and has been a researcher and advisor at the University of Stavanger.
Projects and publications
Fredrik has published both scientific articles, book chapters and reports on topics such as incels, screen use, conversion therapy, and intersex. He has written for both Norwegian and international journals and book publishers. At Nordland Research Institute Among other things, he has led projects such as Evaluation of the VO line , Experiences with conversion therapy among queer people , and Experiences of young people who have broken with Christian religious communities .
Communication and teaching
Fredrik is an active communicator and participant in the social debate, where he particularly contributes perspectives on how gender and masculinity are expressed in the media and popular culture. He has also carried out several dissemination and competence-building projects aimed at the municipal sector.
