Rapporten oppsummerer workshopen Beyond Protection – Naturvern og (geo)politikk i arktiske grenseområder, der forskere, naturforvaltere, naturvernere, næringsaktører og representanter fra lokalsamfunn diskuterte naturvern i en tid preget av klimaendringer og økende geopolitiske spenninger.

Diskusjonene viser hvordan naturvern både kan være en arena for samarbeid og et virkemiddel for nasjonal kontroll og geopolitikk. Rapporten løfter også betydningen av lokal kunnskap og medvirkning, og peker på hvordan endrede geopolitiske forhold påvirker grenseoverskridende forskning, miljøsamarbeid og naturforvaltning.

The report summarises the Beyond Protection – Nature Conservation and (Geo)politics in Arctic Borderlands workshop, bringing together researchers, nature managers, environmental organisations, businesses and local actors to discuss nature conservation in a context of climate change and growing geopolitical tensions.

The discussions highlight how nature conservation can function both as a platform for cooperation and as a tool of national control and geopolitics. The report also emphasises the importance of local knowledge and participation, and examines how changing geopolitical conditions affect cross-border research, environmental cooperation and nature management.
