Ongoing project

Nano-MAP: Nanoplastic Monitoring for Risk Management in Aquaculture, Environment and Public Health

The project will establish a new measurement method for the smallest pieces of plastic – nanoplastics. We will map where the nanoplastics come from, test new ways to remove them, and look at how industry and society can contribute to the solution.

The smallest pieces of plastic – nanoplastics – end up in water, food and the human body. They are invisible, but they affect both health and the environment. In this project, we will develop new measurement technology, investigate where the nanoplastics come from and find out how they can be removed from water.

The project is led by SINTEF Helgeland and is in collaboration with Nordland Research Institute , UiT The Arctic University of Norway, Helgeland Plast, Nemko Norlab, Moleaer, Kvarøy Fiskeoppdrett, Rana and Hemnes Municipality, Nordland County Municipality, and the Norwegian Environment Agency in the reference group.
